Road safety professionals from across Ireland, the UK and EU will attend a conference in Killarney next month.
This event is aimed at improving road safety and it’s being hosted by Kerry County Council.
The two-day road safety conference will take place in the INEC, Killarney on May 28th and 29th.
The council says the Safer Roads conference is an inter-agency event focused on improving road safety, reducing traffic-related incidents, and sharing knowledge and best practices for safer road use.
Kerry County Council says road safety professionals, speakers and service providers from across Ireland, other EU countries and the UK will attend.
This will include transportation experts, Government and local authority officials, roads policing and vehicle inspection agencies, collision responders, road safety advocates, educators and promoters, as well as cycling bodies and community safety networks.
An AI, virtual reality and driver simulation will play a significant role at the conference; this tool helps improve safety by predicting and preventing accidents, optimising traffic, and helping the development of autonomous vehicles.
Director of Services for Roads and Transport at Kerry County Council, Frank Hartnett says this event is an opportunity for a world class community that shares a passion, dedication and desire to excel in road safety to learn and share.
Kerry County Council’s Road Safety Officer Declan Keogh says road safety has evolved over the years to a much broader scope in terms of e-mobility, sustainability, technology and engineering.
He says the conference will involve and include every branch of the road safety tree, and will work to increase awareness, improve road user behaviour and decrease the collisions and carnage we see on our roads every day.
