Rising sea temperatures affecting marine life off Kerry coast

The rising sea temperatures is having an impact on marine life off the Kerry coast.

That's according to Vincent Hyland, wildlife filmmaker and naturalist, who's based in Derrynane.

The extreme marine water heatwaves have been confirmed off the south and west coast by Met Éireann and the UK Met Office for the second time in two years.

The last time Ireland had sea temperatures this high was in June 2023.

These heatwaves can cause growth of algal blooms, and cause issues in local aquaculture, as well as disruptions in the food chain.
