Regional Health Forum South West calls for nicotine toothpick ban

The Regional Health Forum South West has backed a proposal calling for Ireland and the EU to ban nicotine toothpicks.

Labour councillor in Cork City, Peter Horgan warned that children can easily buy them online using smartphones.

Supporting the motion, Tralee MD councillor Mikey Sheehy argued that a lack of long-term health data should not delay action, as he believes happened in earlier debates around vaping.

The forum has agreed to write to both the Minister for Health and the European Commissioner for Health seeking action at Irish and European levels.
