Red Cross Youth and Think Before You Flush tackle sewage litter on Tralee Beach

A delegation from a coastal protection programme joined Red Cross Youth members in Tralee for an outdoor classroom event at Cockleshell Beach.

The session was part of Think Before You Flush, a Clean Coasts campaign that raises awareness about the impact of flushing sanitary products and other items down the toilet.

Clean Coasts, operated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce, works with communities to protect Ireland’s beaches, seas, and marine life.

Activities included a beach clean, which revealed large amounts of wet wipes tangled in seaweed, and hands-on experiments demonstrating the effects of sewage-related litter.

Run in partnership with Uisce Éireann since 2015, Think Before You Flush continues to highlight the importance of responsible flushing habits in safeguarding our coasts.
