Pupils from five Kerry primary schools will visit a Tralee farm today for a hands-on learning experience.
The visit to Leo O’Connor’s dairy farm is being organised by the National Dairy Council.
The children will experience life on a working farm first-hand and learn about animal welfare, milk production and nutrition.
A recent National Dairy Council survey suggests many children have become disconnected from food production and farming, with more than half under 12 years never having seen a cow being milked.
Nationwide, 1,500 pupils will visit working dairy farms this May as part of the EU School Milk Scheme.
