A public consultation on the amendment of bye-laws governing saunas on Kerry’s Blue Flag beaches opened today.
The proposed amendment was considered at a recent meeting of the Environment, Climate Change, Marine and Emergency Planning Strategic Policy Committee (SPC).
Submission on the draft amendments must be made by 5pm on Tuesday, 5 May.
A chief executive's report and the public's recommendations will then be discussed at the May council meeting.
Councillor Deirdre Ferris said there is a need to consider extending sauna licences beyond Blue Flag beaches given their growing popularity.
Councillor Michael Leane was informed that the current sauna operators at Ballyheigue and Banna will need to reapply under the updated guidelines.
