Up to 50 protesters holding crosses have gathered outside the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.

It’s being led by West Kerry musician, Breanndán Begley, who built a wooden cabin on an articulated truck trailer because he wasn’t given planning to build a house on the Dingle Peninsula.

He says he’s been threatened with an enforcement order to remove the structure, or he faces two years in jail, or a fine of €12.6 million.

Last week Mr Begley erected 235 wooden crosses in his field as part of a protest over planning permission; he says the crosses represent the number of people who used to live in the area.

Today, he and other supporters have gathered outside Kerry County Council’s monthly meeting, holding the crosses; he says they’ll keep going until rural planning laws are made more equal.
