An independent councillor has urged for more councillor input in housing allocation and planning in Kerry.
Charlie Farrelly made the plea at the recent meeting of the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD.
He says the time has come, when planning is sought for new developments - that people from the local area are considered first for allocations.
Cllr Farrelly said in Castleisland, locals are crying out for housing; but when new developments come, councillors only know a handful of families allocated units.
He stated once there is a breakdown in law and order, it lands on the local councillors doorstep to sort out.
Cllr Farrelly asked that going forward, people primarily from the locality are allocated housing, especially for affordable housing units.
