Plans have been unveiled for a new €7 million housing estate on the edge of Tralee.
Dromjam Limited is applying for planning permission to build 32 houses and four apartments at Dromcairn, on the N70 Tralee to Castlemaine road.
The company claims this will deliver much-needed housing for the town.
Dromjam Limited has applied to build 12 detached houses with four bedrooms each, as well as 20 semi-detached houses with three bedrooms each.
The company plans to build an apartment building with two, one-bed apartments, and two, two-bed apartments.
The 1.32-hectare site is at Dromcairn at Camp in Tralee, on the N70 road out of Tralee towards Castlemaine, adjoining the existing Dromcairn estate.
In the design statement accompanying the planning application, John Phelan Architects says this €7 million investment in Tralee would complete the Dromcairn neighbourhood after 20 years of investment and construction.
Planning was granted for a neighbourhood centre on this site in 2009, but the economic downturn prevented the estate from being developed.
Kerry County Council granted planning for 36 homes on the site back in November 2020, but this was overruled by An Bórd Pleanála.
The design statement now says Dromjam Limited is looking to make a significant contribution to Tralee and deliver a much-needed mix of one-off housing and affordable accommodation for the town to meet the current housing crisis.
It says the site is zoned residential, is a substantially brownfield site, and there is no history of flooding.
The company plans on providing 70 car parking spaces for the 36 residential units.
Kerry County Council is due to decide on this application by 11th June.
