Planning permission is sought to convert a vacant house in Tralee into a new respite care centre for adults with disabilities.
Local Living Respite Care Ltd is seeking permission to change a vacant property at the entrance to Lovers Lane, Ballyard, Tralee, into a respite centre.
A cover letter accompanying the planning application writes the property was identified as a suitable location for short-term respite accommodation and care services for adults with disabilities.
The letter says the property is not in active residential use and has been vacant for a period of time.
The company is applying for permission to change the use of the property from domestic residential, to residential care home, and for planning permission for a single-storey extension.
The cover letter says the development will provide a safe, comfortable, and home-like environment where individuals can avail of short-term respite services, while also offering much-needed support to families and caregivers.
It says across Kerry, there is an increasing demand for community-based disability support services, including respite accommodation.
The company says the development will bring the property back into active use while providing a valuable social service for the community.
Kerry County Council is due to decide on the application by 7th June.
