Kerry County Council has granted planning permission for a hostel in Killarney.
The development will be located at Hegarty’s Service Station on the Muckross Road.
Marowak Investments, who own the existing fuel station and Spar shop, applied for planning permission in March last year.
Their application for a 3-storey hostel alongside the service station has recently been approved; the proposed development will also include an extension over the existing shop.
The hostel will consist of a reception, communal kitchen and dorm rooms on ground floor, with additional dorms and a lounge area on the second floor.
Additionally, part of the neighbouring industrial warehouse will be demolished to facilitate a commercial building with six retail units.
The hostel has been granted permission subject to 21 conditions, including that the new build be neutral in colour to integrate with the surrounding structures.
