Planning granted for demolition of all structures at Tralee racecourse

Planning has been granted for the demolition of all existing structures at the former Tralee racecourse.

Ard Rí Marble purchased the 100-acre Ballybeggan site in 2024 for a price understood to be around €5 million, with plans for warehousing, manufacturing, and potentially housing for staff.

It has now been granted permission to demolish all buildings including the two landmark stands, one of which is said to date back to the early 20th century.

Racing at the Ballybeggan racecourse dates back to the late 19th century, with the final August race meeting held in 2008.

Planning was granted subject to six conditions, including that the council’s Conservation Officer and County Archivist are allowed assess any potential valuable cultural memorabilia, photographs and other heritage features and items that should be conserved.
