Planning permission has been granted for a new bowling alley within Killarney Outlet Centre.
Kerry County Council granted permission for COK Property Ltd to create an indoor family entertainment centre in vacant units upstairs in the Outlet Centre.
It's part of a wider redevelopment plan to utilise units which have been vacant since the centre opened in 1999.
The company sought permission to change six vacant units on the first floor into a single unit, which would form a modern, indoor family entertainment centre.
This will include a fully-accessible, eight-lane bowling facility, as well as interactive games like basketball and air hockey, and flexible seating.
Kerry County Council granted permission for the development subject to six conditions, including that it can only operate between 10:30am and 11pm on any day.
The council’s planner said an objection was received from a Killorglin resident that raised issues like traffic, noise, hours of operation, and anti-social behaviour.
However, the planner wrote the entertainment centre would be compatible with the existing tourist offering in Killarney, as well as being a recreation facility for residents of Killarney and the wider area.
The plans form part of an overall redevelopment of the outlet centre, aimed at tackling vacancy especially on the first floor.
12 months ago, the company received permission to turn six of the units into an indoor dining zone/food hall and a bar, with another corner being converted into an events area with capacity for 200 people.
