An appeal to An Coimisiún Pleanála, against major enhancements to an air ambulance base near the Kerry-Cork border, has been withdrawn.
The Irish Community Air Ambulance has been based at Rathcool Airfield in Knockcahill, just over 14km (14.41km) from the Kerry border, since 2018.
In June, Cork County Council granted planning permission for significant improvements at the aerodrome.
These included building a dedicated helipad, an illuminated 740 meter hard surfaced runway and a 148 metre taxiway, a new hangar, and a new operations and paramedic building.
The proposed improvements would enable the air ambulance helicopter to return from call-outs at night, increasing operational days.
John McCarthy & Associates Chartered Quantity Surveyors had appeal on behalf of their clients.
However, the appeal was withdrawn on Monday (20 July).
Construction will be carried out in a single phase and is expected to take approximately four to six months, employing around 20 people.
