A new pilot bus service to the Maherees has been launched.
The international SMART Coast project is aimed at improving transport access to the Maharees peninsula and reducing seasonal traffic congestion.
The SMART Coast summer shuttle bus will operate over four peak-season weekends for visitors and locals alike.
The subsidised service will run on 18th and 19th July, 25th and 26th July, 1st, 2nd and 3rd August, and 8th and 9th August.
It will serve Spillane’s Carpark at Fahamore, Kilshannig (near the graveyard), and Béal Geal Blue Flag beach car park.
It will also connect with the Local Link Route 273 service at Castlegregory.
For more information, go to the Radio Kerry website.
The shuttle pilot is part of the SMART Coast project, an Interreg Atlantic Area initiative promoting sustainable coastal tourism.
It involves partners from Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and France, including local authorities, universities, tourism organisations, and community groups.
The Maharees is the Irish pilot site.
The partners, including Munster Technological University (MTU), Fáilte Ireland, Kerry County Council (KCC), and Maharees Heritage and Conservation, collaborate to develop and test strategies, such as the summer shuttle service.
