The team behind the Phoenix Cinema regeneration in Dingle has put on another public event, due to high demand.
The group has already held sessions in June and August, and the next sessions, titled ‘Proposing’, takes place in a month’s time.
The former cinema was bought last year by married couple, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy and artist Yvonne McGuinness, having closed in 2021 after over 100 years in operation.
The Phoenix team has been planning its redevelopment in consultation with local people, to make a community arts space.
The project’s first event in June, ‘Listening’, laid the groundwork and took suggestions, while ‘Sketching’ earlier this month offered a glimpse of early design ideas.
Both events drew strong engagement from the community.
The Phoenix team is holding its next sessions on 27th September at the old cinema, titled ‘Proposing’, which will offer a more detailed view of how the future Phoenix might look and function, inside and out.
It’s envisaged it will become a not-for-profit arts centre, where there will be film screenings, areas for live performance, rehearsals, music practice, meetings, and small theatre.
There are also plans for artists’ studios, a project room, gallery, community ‘living room’, and an outdoor garden space.
The first slot on September 27th at 3pm is now sold out, but the team has put on another session at 5pm the same day.
Booking for that is now open.
Those unable to attend are encouraged to share ideas by email at [email protected]. Registration for the 5pm session is available via Eventbrite - here.
