A company which has already begun clearing a vacant petrol station in Tralee has now sought planning permission to complete its renovation of the site.
Lissan Coal Company Ireland Ltd has already undertaken significant work at the former petrol station at the entrance to the Horan’s Centre in Tralee, near Austin Stack Park.
The company plans to renovate the filling station and turn it into a 24-hour, pay-at-the-pump station.
The company began work at the now-vacant filling station last year, but Kerry County Council served a warning letter and enforcement notice claiming the development was unauthorised.
The company has sought retention permission from the council for the works already carried out at the Horan’s Centre filling station.
These works include the removal of a steel shed structure, removal of offset fill and vent pipes, excavation and clearing of the site for underground fuel tanks, and the provision of two underground 60,000-litre fuel tanks for its proposed new filling station.
The company further seeks planning to alter the forecourt canopy, provide additional fuel pumps, new signage, and a drive-thru car wash at the site.
It’s proposed that the new filling station operate as a 24-hour, pay-at-the-pump petrol station, and so it doesn’t require the former shop, which it will use for a control room and office space.
The company’s planning application says the development represents a positive addition to the area, assisting with improved street activity compared to the existing vacant service station.
Kerry County Council is due to decide on the application by 1st April.
