People in several parts of Kerry will experience temporary loss of water supply until about midday tomorrow.
Uisce Éireann says it’s implemented targeted nighttime restrictions in various parts of the county, as a large burst on the N22 and increased usage is placing pressure on supply.
Meanwhile, a Kerry county councillor is calling for more water tankers to be made available for people affected by the water outage.
Uisce Éireann is asking people in the Tralee, Fenit, and Castleisland areas to conserve water, as they say supplies are being used faster than water can be treated.
A large burst on the N22 Farranfore to Killarney road continues to cause difficulty to supply in Kerry, while a burst is also affecting other parts of the county.
Works to repair the burst at Knockeendubh are expected to go on until 8pm.
Uisce Éireann now says it’s implemented targeted nighttime restrictions to help protect daytime supplies; these nighttime restrictions have already started, and will be in place until midday tomorrow.
The affected areas are Kerins Park, Cloghers, Kerries, Fenit, Spa Road, Caherslee, Knockawadra, Clogherbrien, Blennerville, Hare Street, Ardfert, Firies, Flemby, Ballyseedy, Currans, Castlemaine, Castleisland, Kilsarkin and surrounding areas.
Uisce Éireann says people in these areas may experience lower water pressure, intermittent disruptions or temporary loss of supply while these measures are in operation.
The utility says the restrictions are necessary to support reservoir recovery following the major burst and help maintain water supplies for homes and businesses.
Water tankers are available for people near the Tankard Bar in Fenit, near Ardfert National School on station road, at the RSA office on Spa Road, Tralee, and at Desmonds GAA Club in Castleisland.
Uisce Éireann is again reminding people to boil the water they collect from these tankers before consumption as a precaution.
Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil councillor Fionnán Fitzgerald has asked Uisce Éireann for more tankers to be made available for the area around Firies.
He says the tanker in Castleisland is too far for Firies and many other areas to serve all the people affected.
He has asked the utility to consider more water tanks be put in place throughout the general area.
Meanwhile, nighttime water restrictions will be in place on the Listowel Regional Public Water Supply Scheme from 12pm until 8am tomorrow morning. As a result customers in Listowel Town, Moyvane, Knockanure, Lisselton, Ballyduff and surrounding areas may experience lower water pressure or temporary disruptions to supply while these measures are in operation.
