The owners of Edenburn House have stated that a "collaboration" with the Department of Integration had previously been reached to house refugees.
In response to a query from Radio Kerry, Mid Kerry Properties Limited, through its representative, Brendan O'Connell & Associates, confirmed the information.
In May last year, the department released a statement advising it had received an offer of accommodation for "beneficiaries of Temporary Protection" at the former TB hospital in Ballymacelligott.
This was something which was at the time denied and refuted by the owners.
Edenburn House was built in 1760, and over the years served as a TB sanatorium and as a convalescent hospital and home for the elderly.
The Georgian country house and 19-acre estate in Ballymacelligott, was sold to a private buyer for €1.1 million in September 2023.
There was speculation that the property would be used to house either refugees or asylum seekers, but this was denied by the owners representatives at the time.
In January last year, an owners statement was released - stating that apartments would begin to come on the open market for letting to the public after refurbishment.
However, in late April 2024, the Department of Integration issued a statement claiming the property had been offered and was still under consideration for housing people fleeing the war in Ukraine.
This was refuted days later by the property owners, who reiterated that the property will be let on the open market, and any statements to the contrary were inaccurate.
The Department later stated the building had been offered, however, an administrative delay showed the offer was undergoing assessment, but it had been withdrawn.
Responding to a query from Radio Kerry, the property owners have now confirmed it had been in collaboration with the Department to provide accommodation for Ukrainians.
The owners state under this collaboration, the conversion of the outer hospital and chapel into emergency accommodation was planning exempt at the time.
However, the statement outlines, due to rumours and negative reaction at the time, the owners withdrew this deal in January 2024 and focused its efforts on renting Edenburn House to the private sector.
The owners say this is still their objective.
