Over €3.5 million in funding has been announced to help disabled or older people in Kerry to suitably adapt their homes.
It’s part of almost €100 million in exchequer funding announced by Housing Minister James Browne.
The Housing Adaptation Grant, which is distributed by local authorities, helps people make their accommodation more suitable for their needs.
The funding has been welcomed by Minister for Children, Disabilty, Equality and Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley, her party colleague Deputy Michael Cahill; Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae; and Independent TD, Danny Healy-Rae.
€3,523,191 in funding has been announced for Kerry under the Housing Adaptation Grant.
This represents a 36% increase in exchequer funding to Kerry County Council under the scheme compared to last year.
The funding allows for modifications to make houses more suitable for older people and individuals with long-term disabilities.
Up to €40,000 in grants are available for disabled people to adapt their homes under the scheme, which is an increase from €30,000 under the fund last year.
Meanwhile, the funding to assist older people carry out adaptations to their homes has increased from €8,000 to €10,700; and grants for mobility aids have also risen to €8,000.
According to the Department of Housing, the projected contribution by Kerry County Council is over €620,000 (€621,740), leading to a projected combined total of more than €4.1 million (€4,144,931) in grants available in Kerry.
