Over €10 million has been collected by Kerry County Council from parking fees, fines and charges over the past three years.
The figures were provided to Labour councillor Marie Moloney.
She tabled a motion seeking the information and how the money was spent at yesterday’s monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.
Last year, Kerry County Council collected over €3.53 million (€3,539,475) from parking fees, fines and charges.
The figure was just slightly higher the previous year; in 2023 the council collected €3.55 million (€3,557,821) and in 2022 the council collected over €3.16 million (€3,162,853) from parking fees, fines and charges.
Councillor Marie Moloney also sought details of how this money was spent.
Kerry County Council told her that parking revenue is a critical source of local income for it.
The council added that revenue generated from parking fines and charges across the county are used for maintenance and management of car parks, street parking, parking enforcement and associated support services and form part of overall local income sources available to Kerry County Council.
Cllr Moloney stated while the funding is already going towards good causes, she’d like to see the money collected in each Municipal District retained in the MD saying there are lots of local projects it could go towards.
