Over €1 million in funding has been announced for outdoor amenities in Kerry.
Four projects will receive up to €500,000 under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
It’s part of over €16.5 million in supports for 63 outdoor projects nationally, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Dara Calleary.
The funding has been welcomed by Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, Independent deputy Danny Healy-Rae, Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill and Children's Minister Norma Foley.
€1,096,299 has been announced in funding for outdoor recreation projects in Kerry under the ORIS scheme.
The projects in the county include enhancement works on walking and cycling trails, surfacing upgrades and erosion prevention.
Ballyseedy Wood Amenity trail has been allocated €500,000, to extend the trail and establishing a connection to Tralee.
The Killarney Jarvey Lane – Walk/Cycle trail; and the Shannon Way (Slí na Sionainne) in North Kerry are to receive €200,000 each for phase 2 maintenance and upgrades.
Meanwhile, more than €196,000 (€196,299) has been allocated for repair and improvement works to prevent further erosion at Strickeen Mountain Trail.
