There were over 7,000 domestic abuse calls to gardaí in Kerry in the last five years.
Figures provided by Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan show there have been a further 640 such calls to gardaí in Kerry this year.
These include calls for breaches of barring orders, safety orders, or protection orders, as well as calls where no specific offence is identified.
The number of domestic abuse calls in Kerry increased every year between 2020 and 2023, when it peaked at over 1,600 such calls, before falling to 1,435 last year.
The Irish Independent reports that Kerry has among the lowest number of domestic abuse calls per capita of any garda division.
