There has been an over 5% rise in the number of weddings celebrated in Kerry over a decade.
That’s according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office.
It shows 1,030 wedding ceremonies were recorded in 2024, up from 979 in 2014.
Nationally, civil ceremonies are the most popular type of marriage.
The figures show that in Kerry, weddings in Catholic churches were the most popular celebration in 2024.
439 Roman Catholic weddings were celebrated in the county, however, this is down almost 40% in a decade (from 716).
Civil ceremonies are the second most popular wedding celebration in Kerry, with 217 recorded, up 22% when compared with 2014 (when 178 were celebrated).
Humanist weddings rose by over 138% in the decade (from 36 to 86), 94 Spiritualist Union of Ireland ceremonies were celebrated in Kerry, a jump of 487%.
The number of Church of Ireland weddings fell by over 66%, (from 12 to 4), while 190 “Other religious denomination” celebrations were recorded.
Meanwhile, the figures show that civil ceremonies remain the most popular weddings for same-sex marriages in Kerry.
34 same-sex weddings were celebrated in the county during 2024, over 40% of which were civil ceremonies.
15 of the weddings were male couples and 19 were female couples.
According to the CSO there has been a 55% rise in same-sex weddings celebrated in Kerry between 2016 and 2024.
