Over 47% of vehicles that underwent the NCT in Kerry last year passed at the first attempt.
That’s according to data from the National Car Testing Service, which shows nationally, over 1.4 million tests were carried out in 2025.
Kerry was among the counties with the lowest NCT “fail dangerous” rates nationwide in the year.
The figures show over 64,000 (64,469) vehicles underwent the NCT in Kerry in 2025; of these, more than 30,000 (30,711), or 47%, passed on the first attempt.
Just over 52% failed the test - over 29,000 (29,178) vehicles receiving a “failed major” result, with a further 4,580 failing dangerously.
This represents a failed dangerous rate of 7.1% in Kerry, the joint third lowest nationally - with Waterford and Dublin - behind Kildare (6.6%), and Offaly (6.2%).
The highest number of NCT tests in the county last year were carried out in Tralee at over 26,400 (26,413), which saw a 47.12% pass rate.
Just under 23,000 (22,922) inspections took place in Killarney which experienced a 42.02% pass rate.
Castleisland hosted more than 11,300 (11,347) tests, recording a pass rate of 50.64%.
Meanwhile, Cahersiveen saw the highest pass rate in Kerry for NCT tests at just over 52% from more than 3,700 (3,787) inspections.
Lane retests in Kerry saw a pass rate of 88.5%, while 99.59% of vehicles which underwent a non-lane retest in the county, passed.
