There has been an over 40% increase in the number of patients waiting on trolleys in University Hospital Kerry in a year.
That’s according to figures from the Irish Nurses’ and Midwives’ Organisation for November.
The figures show 420 people were waiting on trolleys in UHK during the eleventh month of this year.
Nationally, 9,036 patients were admitted to hospital without a bed during November, a drop of 14% compared to last year.
Of these, 420 were waiting on trolleys at University Hospital Kerry throughout the month.
That’s an increase of 41.4% when compared to the same month last year, when 297 people were waiting for a bed at UHK.
The figure stood at 363 in 2023, there were 355 patients without a bed in 2022, and a further 205 people waited on trolleys in UHK during November of 2021.
Back in 2007, just 21 patients waited for a bed in University Hospital Kerry during the eleventh month of the year, when compared with this year, it represents a jump of 1,900%.
