Kerry County Council has investigated over 30 properties that were suspected of being unauthorised short-term lets in the last three years.
That’s according to figures obtained by the Irish Independent, on the number of investigations by local authorities into suspected illegal short-term lets.
They show that Kerry County Council commenced investigations into 21 properties for this reason in 2023, five in 2024, and five so far this year.
Since 2019, anyone with a short-term let in a rent pressure zone must have planning permission, and this now applies to the entire country, as all of Ireland is currently designated as a rent pressure zone.
The Irish Independent reports that Kerry County Council received no applications this year for planning for short-term lets.
