Driving while under the influence of drink/drugs incidents have dropped by over 22% in a year in Kerry.
That’s according to the Central Statistics Office’s crime data report for the first quarter of 2026.
It shows overall incidents of crime recorded on the county’s roads has dropped by more than 12.5% in twelve months.
Between January and the end of March this year, the Kerry Garda Division made 70 arrests for drink/drug driving.
That’s down from 90 of DUIs recorded over the same period last year, an over 22% decrease.
Dangerous/careless driving incidents dropped by over a quarter (26%), with 31 recorded, down from 42.
Dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm fell from two to zero; while dangerous driving leading to death dropped from one to zero.
There was an over 31% decrease in speeding offences in the first quarter of 2026 with 70 recorded, down from 102.
Incidents of failure to produce a licence jumped by 14%, from 21 to 24; while failure to have/produce/display insurance was unchanged, with 86 offences recorded in Kerry.
Meanwhile one “road transport – carriage of goods offence” was logged in the county in the first three months of 2026, up from zero the previous year.
There was a 7.5% reduction in “other road offences” in a year, with 122 recorded, down from 132.
Vehicle tax/registrations jumped by over 15% with 52, up from 45; roadworthiness/regulatory incidents doubled in a year, from four to eight.
Two crimes of public service vehicle offences were registered in the county, which is unchanged on the year before.
Meanwhile, the figures show road and traffic offences rose slightly, from 290 in Q1 2025, to 295 this year.
