More than 12,000 people will visit Killarney over the coming days as they become Irish citizens.
Six citizenship ceremonies will take place at the Gleneagle, Killarney across today (1st December), and tomorrow (Tuesday, 2nd December).
Applicants from all 32 counties will become citizens at the six ceremonies.
An Garda Síochána has implemented detailed traffic management plans near the venue to support the large numbers expected.
The citizen ceremonies will take place at 11am, 1pm and 3pm today and tomorrow, and last approximately 30 minutes each.
Significant traffic delays are expected near the Gleneagle and along Muckross Road, particularly between 9:30am and 4:30pm.
A free shuttle service to reduce congestion will operate from 8 o'clock each morning, from the train station and from Scott’s Street, with multiple pick-up and drop-off points along Muckross Road.
Parking at or near the Gleneagle will be limited so hotels, guesthouses, and B&B operators are asked to encourage guests attending the ceremonies to avoid driving to the Gleneagle, and instead to walk or use the shuttle services provided.
Both attendees and locals are advised to expect delays and to allow additional travel time if travelling to or through Killarney on either day.
