A Kerry county councillor says it would be outrageous for a primary school in Kerry to lose a teacher because it's down one pupil.

Sinn Féin councillor Deirdre Ferris says Ardfert National School is set to lose a teacher next September, because the school is short one pupil.

Cllr Ferris says this would be outrageous, as Ardfert is a growing community with an increasing population with new housing developments.

The Sinn Féin councillor adds it's an absolute disgrace for a school to be treated this way after an extremely difficult year.

Cllr Ferris is calling on the Education Minister and Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley to ensure this doesn't happen.
