The number of road traffic collisions attended by the Kerry Fire Service increased by over 60% this year.
Figures for the month of January show an increase of 64% in such call-outs, compared to the same month last year.
The figures were compiled by the Kerry Fire Service and outline the numbers and types of call-outs the service attends.
During the month of January, the Kerry Fire Service was mobilised 117 times; which is down from 133 mobilisations during the same month last year; this represents a decrease of 12%.
During the same period, the fire service attended 18 road traffic collisions around the county, which is up from 11 during January last year; this is an increase of 64%.
Meanwhile, there was a 33% decrease in the number of gorse fires attended by the Kerry Fire Service this year.
In the first month of the year, there were two gorse fires attended to by the KFS, which is down from three during the same period last year.
Instances of chimney fires increased in January this year; the fire service responded to 11 such fires during the first month this year, which is up from 8 during the same month last year. This represents a rise of 37%.
