The number of homes granted planning permission in Kerry more than halved last year.
That’s according to the Central Statistics Office Planning Permissions report for 2025.
It shows nationally, the number of approvals for dwellings rose last year compared to 2024.
According to the CSO report, there was an over 51% drop in the number of dwellings granted planning permission in Kerry.
In 2025 a total of 552 units got the green light, down from 1,131 in the previous year.
The number of approvals for apartments in the county fell by over 75%, with 408 in 2024, down to 96 last year.
Planning was granted for 456 houses in Kerry during 2025, which is a drop from 723 the previous year, a 37% reduction.
Approvals for new constructions on dwellings decreased slightly, with 246 granted, down 3%; 227 extensions got the green light, while alterations and conversions jumped by 10%, at 187.
Planning permission for “new constructions on other” increased by 12.5% in a year, with 376 granted (up from 334 in 2024).
The figures show planning permission was approved for a total floor area of 152,000 square metres for developments in the county last year.
