A North Kerry resource centre has issued advice for clients to help them stay safe and healthy in the hot weather.
High temperature warnings are in place for Kerry until 6am Friday, with day-time temperatures expected to be in excess of 27 degrees.
Bud's Family Resource Centre in Ballyduff has issued guidance for people to help them cope with the intense heat.
The centre also says its Meals-On-Wheels drivers will check in with people and can help them with shopping or anything they need.
Manager of Bud's Family Resource Centre Nora Lucid says it’s all about ensuring people are ok:
Bud's Family Resource Centre advice:
✅ Things TO DO:
- Drink plenty of cool water regularly – don’t wait until you feel thirsty
- Eat light, cool meals and snacks (we will provide lighter options for you)
- Keep your home cool: close curtains/blinds on sunny sides during the day; open windows only when it’s cooler outside
- Wear loose, light-coloured clothing
- If you go out, stay in the shade, wear a hat/sunscreen, and rest often
- Keep medicines in a cool, safe place away from direct heat
- Tell your driver if you feel unwell, or need help with shopping, collecting prescriptions, or anything else
❌ Things TO AVOID:
- Heavy, rich or very hot meals, and too much tea, coffee or alcohol – these can make you dehydrated
- Going out in the hottest part of the day (usually 11am–3pm) if possible
- Leaving windows or doors open in a way that compromises your home security
- Sitting or sleeping directly in strong sunlight
- Leaving pets or anyone in a closed, parked vehicle
If you feel dizzy, weak, have muscle cramps, or feel very hot and dry, tell your driver straight away or contact your GP. We are here to support you – please do not hesitate to ask for help.
