Kerry County Council has acquired no derelict sites under compulsory purchase order in the last two years.
That’s according to figures released by the Department for Housing, which shows nationally over 11,000 properties entered into the CPO activation programme since its induction.
In Kerry, over 320 properties entered the programme, 116 in 2023 and 209 in 2024.
The local authority commenced the acquisition of six of these last year, under the Derelict Sites Act 1990.
However, the figures show Kerry County Council completed zero CPO’s in 2023 and 2024.
Housing Minister James Browne has encouraged the council to make full use of their powers under the Derelict Sites Act and Housing Act.
