A newly-released map from the Road Safety Authority has logged the exact location of over 1,700 road traffic collisions in Kerry.

The publicly-available map shows the location of collisions all over the country from the start of 2016 to the end of 2024.

Almost half of the fatalities which happened in Kerry during that time, occurred on national roads within the county.

The RSA data shows there were 61 fatalities from traffic collisions in Kerry between the start of 2016 and the end of 2024.

28 of those are recorded as happening on national roads in the county.

Eight were recorded as happening on the N22 between the edge of Tralee and the county bounds, including five within about 8.4km of the N22 between Brennan’s Glen and the Kilcummin Road turn-off of the Killarney bypass.

A report by Transport Infrastructure Ireland in late 2023 predicted there would be more fatalities if the Farranfore to Killarney bypass was not completed.

There were six fatalities recorded in that time on the N21 between Tralee and Abbeyfeale, with five of those all on a 7km stretch between Ahaneboy and the junction at Headley’s Bridge.

Five fatalities were recorded on the N70 Ring of Kerry road, which runs from Tralee to Kenmare via Killorglin and Cahersiveen.

There were four fatalities on the N69 between Tralee and Tarbert in that time, while there were also four fatalities recorded on an 8km stretch of the R555 between Listowel and Abbeyfeale.

There were also four fatalities logged on the road through the Gap of Dunloe in that time, while there were two fatalities each on the N86 Tralee to Dingle, and N72 Killorglin to the county bounds after Rathmore.

As well as the 61 collisions categorised as fatal, there were 416 collisions categorised under ‘serious injury’, and over 1,200 categorised as ‘non-serious injury’, between 2016 and 2024 in Kerry.
