New report shows Cahersiveen making strides as Gaeltacht Service Town

Advances have been made in progressing Cahersiveen as a Gaeltacht Service Town.

That’s according to a report by Kerry County Council’s Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht SPC (Strategic Policy Committee).

Cahersiveen was formally designated as a Gaeltacht Service Town in 2023, because it is situated adjacent to Iveragh Peninsula Gaeltacht, and because it provides significant public services, social, recreational, and commercial facilities to the Gaeltacht community.

The report says these advances include the development of the cslegaeilge.ie website, Irish-medium inter-school events, and collaboration with the O'Connell Adult Education Centre, which resulted in the roll-out of four Irish-medium courses for adults.

It also highlights conversation opportunity events and the provision of Irish signage for businesses to increase the visibility of the language.
