The Health Service Executive has announced new infrastructure for Kerry in its 2025 capital plan.
Among the new announcements is an additional theatre for childbirth at University Hospital Kerry.
The existing obstetrics theatres and equipment will also be upgraded.
The capital plan has been welcomed by Minister Norma Foley, Junior Minister Michael Healy-Rae, Deputy Michael Cahill and Deputy Danny Healy-Rae.
The construction of the extra theatre for childbirth and the upgrading of the existing obstetrics theatre are currently at the tender stage.
Meanwhile, detailed designs for the new oncology day ward at UHK, first approved in 2022, have been completed.
This project includes 14 day treatment cubicles, two isolation rooms, and seven outpatient consultation rooms in a rooftop extension over the existing Palliative Care ward.
This too is expected to go to tender this year.
A new aseptic compounding unit to manufacture tailored chemotherapy and biologic treatments at UHK for the first time is also set to go to tender in 2025.
The purchase and fitting out of a building on John Joe Sheehy Road, Tralee, to accommodate the relocation of the women's health team from UHK is currently out to tender.
A new ward block at UHK, announced last May, with single rooms and additional facilities for patients, is currently being appraised.
Meanwhile, the HSE Capital Plan 2025 also includes the provision of a new ambulance station for Caherciveen Community Hospital, with a possible lease solution under consideration.
A design feasibility study is underway.
In Killorglin, the purchase and renovation of a residential dwelling as part of the decongregation strategy is at the detailed design stage.
