Neurosurgeon praises work of Kerry Young Scientist winner

A neurosurgeon has praised the work of a 15-year-old Tralee student in developing a brain cancer diagnosis tool.

Aoibheann Daly, who attends Mercy Mounthawk, won the overall prize in this year's Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, for her project GlioScope.

John Caird is a paediatric consultant neurosurgeon who is involved with the charity, Brain Tumour Ireland.

He says Aoibheann' s work is important as early detection rates of brain cancer are low.

Mr Caird believes her work has also raised awareness of this rare form of cancer.
