Munster Technological University, including key projects based at MTU Kerry, has secured more than four-and-a-half million euro (€4.5 million) in research funding for sustainability, food and bioeconomy projects.
A major focus is the Grass4Value project, linked to MTU’s pilot green biorefinery at its Kerry campus.
It secured three million euro (€3 million).
The facility, launched earlier this year, is the first of its kind in Ireland.
It aims to reduce carbon footprint by developing technologies that convert grasslands into a circular bioeconomy.
The biorefinery will support the production of animal feed, human-grade protein, prebiotics, flavours and bioenergy.
The pilot green biorefinery at MTU Kerry is funded by Enterprise Ireland in collaboration with the Centre for Applied BioSciences Research Technology Gateway.
