Kerry County Council has passed a motion of sympathy for former Listowel town clerk David O'Brien.
Mr O'Brien of Clieveragh, Listowel died last Thursday (12th February); his funeral took place yesterday (Monday).
He had worked for the council for many years, including serving as the last ever Listowel town clerk and in the environment, water, and planning departments.
Proposing the motion of sympathy, cathaoirleach of the council, Michael Foley, described Mr O'Brien as a dedicated public servant, and a kind, warm, generous, and valued friend.
Councillor Jimmy Moloney said he was a template for a dedicated public servant, a proud Listowel man, and a huge loss to Kerry.
Councillor Liam 'Speedy' Nolan spoke of Mr O'Brien's kindness, while councillor Tom Barry said he was exceptionally supportive, and a great friend.
Councillor Aoife Kennelly spoke of his support of Listowel Emmets and Listowel Celtic.
The council's director of corporate services, Martin O’Donoghue told the full council meeting that emotions were very raw in County Buildings, adding Mr O'Brien was a fantastic colleague and wonderful human being.
Condolences were expressed to Mr O'Brien's wife, daughters, parents, brother, and extended family and friends.
