Patients and visitors using the car park at University Hospital Kerry last year, paid more than €600,000 in parking charges, according to figures released by Labour TD for Kildare South, Mark Wall.
It's also emerged that over €210,000 has been collected by the Tralee hospital in parking fees so far this year, while Cork University Hospital - used frequently by Kerry patients - had the biggest takings of all hospitals, with revenue of over two million Euro from parking.
Deputy Wall says a commitment was made in the Programme for Government to look at reducing hospital parking charges, but this hasn't happened so far.
He says that with many patients forced to pay €25 per day for parking at some facilities, a cap on parking charges needs to be brought in:
