Eight people have died on Kerry roads so far this year, one more than the entirety of last year.
According to Garda statistics, until today, (Tuesday 28 October), a total of 140 people had died on the nation’s roads.
This comprises 56 drivers, 29 pedestrians, 28 motorcyclists, 13 pedal cyclists, 11 passengers, two e-scooter users and one pillion passenger.
August and September were the deadliest months, with 17 fatalities each.
Road-safety campaign group Parc says almost one in three deaths have involved motorcyclists and pedal cyclists, a rate not witnessed since 2008.
When the figures are analysed per capita, Mayo, Donegal, Roscommon and Galway have recorded the highest rate of deaths.
