Mobile phone and broadband coverage in the Listowel area has been affected over the past number of days following a fire that damaged telecoms equipment at the rear of Listowel Garda Station.
The small fire damaged equipment belonging to Three Ireland.
Two units of the Kerry fire service were called to the fire which occurred in a small building to the rear of the yard of Listowel Garda Station on Saturday around 5pm.
The building is located at the base of the communication tower, that houses communication equipment and is a mobile phone exchange for some commercial operators.
The fire was extinguished using Dry Powder extinguishers, which would be standard when dealing with the telecoms equipment in the building and associated battery banks.
Three Ireland said the building houses 2G, 3G and 4G voice and data telecommunications equipment along with supporting fibre and radio transmission equipment.
According to the company the fire caused a small amount of localised damage within the building, and at no time was there any danger to local residents.
The company say the root cause of the fire is under investigation by their technical teams, and they are working with both An Garda Síochána and the OPW.
An Garda Síochána have told Radio Kerry that no equipment belonging to it was damaged and its communications are unaffected.
Three also said that they rerouted their network to other masts in the area and that the site is now back up and running.
