The Government wants local businesses to prosper according to the Minister for Public Expenditure, Jack Chambers.
Minister Chambers was addressing the Tralee Chamber Presidents Lunch.
He said that the government intends to prioritise investment in infrastructure while moderating expenditure.
Minister Chambers said that Tralee has a reputation for excellence and an enterprising spirit. He congratulated the town on its recent Tidy Towns category award. He said that while the government will be moderating expenditure it will be prioritising investment in infrastructure projects. The Minister said decisions need to be made to help build resilience for the future, and that local businesses that create jobs are the backbone of the economy. He said that Kerry’s success is Irelands success.
Luke Hanlon MD of SuperValu and Centra said that the group employs over 1,000 staff in 35 stores in Kerry and is very proud to champion others that share a spirit of ambition and shared purpose in shaping their communities. He congratulated the Garvey Group on recent national awards and for keeping community at the heart of what they do.
Chamber President Sandra Rusk said towns need to retain balance and a mix of retail offerings including local, national and international shops. She said we must give people a compelling reason to shop, work and live in Kerry and she encouraged people to shop local and keep local businesses alive.
