Minister rejects calls for free public transport in response to fuel crisis

The Minister for Higher Education has rejected calls for free public transport in response to the fuel crisis.

Minister James Lawless was responding to Ireland South MEP, Michael McNamara's suggestion that fares be reduced or cut entirely.

The European Commission is preparing a package of measures to address fuel prices and shortages caused by the war in Iran.

EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen said yesterday that "stocks could fall to a level where you have localised shortages".
