Minister criticises those who condemn rural decline but don't support local post offices

Communications Minister Patrick O’Donovan has criticised the public for not using their local post office

This comes after yesterday's Government approval of 75 million euro in funding to support the postal network over the next five years.

It's been described as a crucial support for An Post which will help to prevent further post office closures.

However, Minister O’Donovan says that Kerry post offices also need the support of local people:

The minister also defended the increased price of stamps.

The cost of sending letters nationwide and abroad will increase from the 3rd of February, with a national stamp rising to 1 euro 85 cents
