The man accused of murdering Kenmare man Mike Gaine will be brought to court next week to be served with the book of evidence against him.
54-year-old Michael Kelley, who had been living in Tralee, appeared before Judge David Waters at Tralee District Court today.
Mr Kelley is before the court on a single charge; that he murdered Kenmare farmer Mike Gaine between the 20th and 21st March 2025 at Carrig, Kenmare, contrary to common law.
He appeared in Tralee District Court today via video link from Cork Prison, where he has been in custody on remand since he was charged in February.
Sergeant Chris Manton said the state's application is to bring Mr Kelley to Tralee District Court in person next week, to be served with the book of evidence against him.
Sgt Manton confirmed he will have the book of evidence in court next week.
Mr Kelley's solicitor, Pat Mann, told his client over the video link that he will be brought to court in person next week, to which Mr Kelley replied, “Thank you, sir”.
Mr Kelley was remanded in continuing custody to next Wednesday.
Once the book of evidence is served on Mr Kelley, he can then be sent forward for trial on the charge against him.
