Michael Gaine’s friends say they never thought Kenmare man would leave his farm they way he did

A friend of Michael Gaine says they never thought the Kenmare man would leave his farm yard the way he did yesterday.

Mike Gaine was last seen on March 20th and a man, aged in his 50s, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder; he continues to be questioned this lunchtime.

Brian Hickey is a close friend of Mike Gaine and they rallied together.

Over the weekend, Mr Hickey was helping investigators at the scene in Carrig East, Kenmare, where partial remains were recovered.

He praised those involved in the investigation and says the community also helped in any way they could to bring Mike back to his family.

Brian Hickey told Jerry O’Sullivan on Kerry Today that he, and other friends, wanted to be there as the coffin left the farm yard yesterday evening:

He says it’s been an agonising eight weeks for Mike’s family and the whole community.
