Michael Gaine remembered as a kind, hardworking friend and neighbour who enjoyed every single moment

The late Michael Gaine will be remembered as a kind, hard-working friend and neighbour who enjoyed every single moment.

The funeral for the Kenmare man took place this morning in Holy Cross Church Kenmare.

Mr Gaine was reported missing on March 21st, and a homicide investigation is taking place into the circumstances of his death.

In his eulogy, given by his cousin Eoghan Clarke, Mike was remembered as a generous and thoughtful man who always had an iconic twinkle in his eye

He spoke of Mike's varying interests including farming, rallying and all forms of music, and described his innate ability to make people feel at ease

Readings, prayers of the faithful and gifts were delivered by Mike's sisters, neices, nephews and friends. Family friend Maureen Finnegan delivered this final reflection:

Members of Killarney and District Motor Club formed a guard of honour outside the church to pay tribute to their friend.

A group of Michael's friends had restored his former rally car to lead Mike's funeral procession and final journey, and will take his ashes on one last lap of Kenmare to his home.
