MEP calls for more protection for women as report shows 45% rise in domestic abuse calls

An Ireland South MEP is urging the government to do more - urgently - to protect women across Ireland.

Sinn Féin MEP Kathleen Funchion was responding to Garda figures which show a 45% rise in domestic abuse calls over the past four years.

She described the figures as shocking and warns that violence against women and girls is now at crisis levels.

MEP Funchion says strong laws need to be strictly enforced.
